Join Dan Woods, host of C.C.R. and David Grainger, President of The Guild of Automotive Restorers as they conduct you through the restoration of the George Barris Kustom, SUPERVAN.

Supervan was based on a 1966 Dodge Tradesman that was re-designed by Barris.

It was lengthened, the body removed for a completely custom replacement and after extensive alterations from front to back, Supervan emerged from Barris Kustom industries in its first incarnation as the Love Machine.

Initially it was painted yellow with orange shag and interior appointments that included a revolving bed and an entertainment console. Later it was re painted to Day-Glo pink but retained the orange interior.

The Van toured Hot Rod Shows and special events all over North America for several years and a model kit was produced of the Love Machine by MPC.

During the height of the Disco craze when CB radios ruled the Highway, the Love Machine disappeared back into the Barris shop to re emerge as Super Van. A new Model Kit of Supervan in its new form was issued as well as small toy reproductions.

Super Van was the title character in Super Van, the Movie in which the Van was a Futuristic Solar Powered vehicle, coveted by bad guys and protected by the Good Guys.

While the movie may not have been a great hit, it did assure Super Van a fairly prestigious place in the Vanning World of the Seventies.

Eventually George Barris sold Super Van to Bob Butt’s Fantasy Car in El Cajon California. Bob Butts used it for rental to the Film and Television Industry and Super Van appeared in numerous productions including an appearance as the Hill Valley Transporter in Back to the Future Part II.

Super Van was acquired by the Guild along with several other vehicles from Bob Butts collection and then waited for several years until its number came up for restoration.

CCR TV chronicles this restoration over twenty-six episodes.

During the restoration Dupont Canada pitched in with support and additional funding in order to realize the rebirth of great 70's pop icon.

The Guild would also like to thank 3M Canada who contributed materials for the preparation of Supervan throughout its restoration.

List of Sponsors:

Filming began in May 2003 with the transportation of the SuperVan from storage to our facility in Bradford.

An exciting part of the series content will be on-camera appearances from the creator of SuperVan, George Barris: The King of Kustomizers. Mr. Barris will sporadically provide commentary on the SuperVan design, evolution and significance in automotive history throughout the series.

Evolved from the hit series Classic Car Restorations, CCR TV is a new twenty-six episode series for television, featuring the history and restoration of SuperVan to its former glory within every episode.

Hosted by actor / producer Dan Woods (best known as Mr. Raditch in the awards winning Degrassi series ), CCR TV will document within each episode, the restoration of four unique project vehicles. Chosen to be included in the series is the Guild's project "SuperVan". David Grainger will oversee and coordinate the rebirth of the SuperVan on behalf of the Guild.
